This talk will first briefly introduce active galactic nuclei (AGNs), followed by a presentation of seven recent studies on tidal disruption events (TDEs), AGN quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs), and AGN feedback: (1) Identification of a candidate intermediate-mass black hole TDE through comprehensive multi-wavelength observational analysis; (2) Discovery of a possible supermassive black hole binary TDE based on approximately 20 years of X-ray observations; (3) Detection of correlated evolution between QPO time lag and frequency in AGN RE J1034+396; (4) Discovery that the hard X-ray QPO amplitude in RE J1034+396 is strongly modulated by the soft-band flux; (5) Detection of a QPO “triplet” in RE J1034+396 and interpretation of its possible physical origin; (6) Investigation of AGN feedback in nearby (ultra)luminous infrared galaxies through studies of stellar kinematics and ionized gas outflows; (7) Elucidation of the roles of gas supply and AGN feedback in nuclear and star formation activities in nearby galaxies. Finally, the talk concludes with a brief summary and outlook.
BIO
Yongquan Xue obtained his bachelor and master degrees from Peking University in 2000 and 2003, respectively, and his PhD degree from Purdue University in 2008. He was a postdoctoral scholar at Penn State University from 2008 to 2012. In May 2012, he joined the Department of Astronomy, School of Physical Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China through the youth program of the National Innovation Talent program, and has been a professor since. He was funded by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2020. He is mainly engaged in observational studies of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) and X-ray high-energy astrophysics. His MOOC “Introduction to Astronomy” has been selected as part of the second batch of national first-class undergraduate courses. On Bilibili, he also delivers multiple series of popular science lectures, including “Teacher Xue Talks Astronomy”.
