Dark matter makes up most of the matter in the Universe, yet its fundamental nature remains unknown. In this talk, I will present recent high-resolution N-body simulations of self-interacting dark matter and discuss their implications for a wide range of astrophysical observations. I will highlight new signatures associated with gravothermal collapse in dark matter halos and show how they may be detected through observations of strong gravitational lensing, stellar streams, and supermassive black holes, including the JWST Little Red Dots. These studies open new avenues for uncovering the particle physics of dark matter.

    BIO

Hai-Bo Yu is a Professor of Physics & Astronomy and Deputy Director of the Center for Experimental Cosmology and Instrumentation at the University of California, Riverside. A theoretical physicist, Yu is a pioneer for proposing astrophysical probes of dark matter and is a leading expert in searching for new dark matter physics from small-scale observations of the Universe. He is a Principal Investigator of the Targeted Simons Research Group on Dark Matter Dynamics and a grant recipient from the John Templeton Foundation. He earned his PhD from the University of Maryland, College Park, and was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Michigan and the University of California, Irvine, before joining the faculty at UC Riverside in 2013. He has published approximately 100 research papers, which have been cited over 15,000 times.
